We already have government-run health “care” in the US. It’s called the VA. And the VA kills. The welfare state is not able to provide healthcare for all. The system needs an structural reform. Literally the rest of the developed world manages it. Norway, with arguably the best healthcare system in the world, has universal healthcare. Don't let people who want to rinse you of every penny just because you got cancer or whatever brainwash you.
The welfare state is not able to provide healthcare for all. The system needs an structural reform. The problem with politicians like Bernie, with all his promises, along with all the rest and indeed with all existing Government programs is one of Demographics. It's not only the United States but also almost every developed nation around the world. The National Vital Statistics System released a report that showed once again that our birth rate has dropped to the lowest point in history.
This fact doesn't seem to register with politicians who are making grand promises that depend upon a larger tax base than benefits base. This demographics problem will have some very severe economic impacts on the future of all Government functions and the benefits the Government administers. Now not only does this demographic problem spell trouble for the future but the aging of the population is already threatening programs like Social Security and every other tax-dependent program. There are fewer workers supporting these systems than those receiving benefits, the worker-to-retiree ratios are already becoming skewed toward imbalance.
In order to keep systems like Social Security afloat it's necessary that the now lopsided ratio doesn't drop below a certain point (and it's almost there) otherwise it can no longer support the monthly benefits paid to retirees.
All of these systems and every promise we hear coming from the mouths of politicians require a population replacement percentage otherwise none of their promises can be remotely realized. And despite their promises there is not one thing they can do in office that can change either the birth rate nor the aging population.
More importantly, this long-term decline in the fertility rate has had a slow, damaging effect on the worker-to-retiree ratio.
