We were lucky enough 2 years ago to be sent to a small, seasonal farm to table restaurant in the Dolomites by the owner of a farm we stayed on for 12 nights. The only tourists there, the owner spoke only German. With my little German and Italian, and a fixed menu that took away the need to understand each other for ordering, we had an amazing evening of food, wine and meeting other guests (who spoke English). As we left, praising the food in our poor German, the owner waved for us into the kitchen, pouring us tiny thimble size glasses of several kinds of his farm made grappa. Food truly helps to bridge our cultures.
We are in lockdown in Italy. We really miss going out and eating fabulous Italian food. We hope our favorite restaurants in Verbania survive these crazy times Wow give me a glass of good wine some delicious cheeses and this kind of story to read. I will forget the rest and all the problems going on. Ah...the Italians and their food! We have spent so much time there, so fortunately. I always tell people who have never been that the food is much better than you can even imagine! We will all go again!
