All the employer has to do when this opens up is tell unemployment the person laid off doesn’t don’t want to come back to work and those funds vanish that’s not true. I wish it was but I know a woman who wasn’t laid off but still draws unemployment plus the extra $600 per week because the state closed down the childcare centers and schools. She was approved because of lack of childcare. yes it is. The woman who was approved is an essential food plant worker and had her young children in a day care center but when they closed day care she had no babysitter for her young children. no she doesn’t need a babysitter because she isn’t working. That’s why she was approved for unemployment . She can’t take her kids to daycare because it’s closed and can’t hire someone to come in because of the social distancing policies. your misunderstanding. She is on unemployment so she doesn’t have or need a babysitter. Daycare closed so even though her job is essential she has no babysitter so can’t work. Daycare centers aren’t considered essential and closed when schools closed. I’m sure this is a big issue with a lot of mothers with young children.
