I was surprised that Thomas chose RootsTech as his one in-person event since, although I’m an ambassador for RootsTech, it’s held during the peak of flu season in Utah. With concerns about a second wave of COVID-19, the currently scheduled conference, February 3-6, 2021, should remain under consideration for possible cancellation. I don't think in-person events with 25,000 people should go through until there's a vaccine. I have been in discussions with RootsTech and I am pretty certain that they will have a virtual option available to turn to if there is no physical event.
I selected RootsTech because it offers me the most exposure and I can reach more people at an event. Plus I will have an exhibit booth going forward at RootsTech.
It is my hope that conferences like NGS will go back to their pre-Great Pause settings, once this is all over. I attended RootsTech once. I really appreciate everything that is offered, but honestly, it is just way too big. I can handle the size of an NGS conference, but I won't be going back to a conference that hosts 30,000+ people.
I also hope that the virtual conference model continues - it is another tool that can be added to our educational tool belt.
