When he’s in HS put his laundry away in his room about 15 mins before bedtime as an excuse to enter. His guard will be down and he will talk like he used to. Worked great on my 3 sons. I'm not crying, you're crying! 😭 Mine is 19 and I feel the same way. Everyone tells me that my sweet, mama loving, boy will return. I wish it didn't take so long.
My boys are grown but i remember when they pushed me away but when no one was around they hug me and told me they loved me. They push and pull until we feel like taffy but God made moms very flexible so we can take the stretching of our emotions, but come out stronger and our boys come back and are more loving and loyal. Those moments are sweeter than sugar, and more precious than gold. Our baby (and only boy) will be 16 in just a little over a month, so yeah, I really get this!
This afternoon, we were on our way to his first-ever "hang out together for a few hours" at the outlets with a female friend, and he caught me off guard when he told me, "I love you," a few minutes before he got out of the car. Oh, this...from the same boy who often gives a little grunt nowadays when I ask for a peck on the cheek!
